Kangaroo Hard Drive
Pros: memory does not erase with internal battery, like a kangaroo hard drive.
Cons: vibrator has very few uses except to drive up the cost.

The new Innopak from Innogear was the first expansion accessory I purchased for my Handspring Visor. Boasting 2 MB of fast flash memory (flash memory is what most digital camaras use to internally store pictures.) to help safeguard important data, I figured that I could use the extra apps space. Now, a week and a half later, I am more impressed with my Innopak than when I bought it.

Extra Memory
The first part of the Innopak is the 2MB expansion flash memory. It requires no drivers, no special setup, and is raring to go right out of the box. This works something like a plug-n-play kangaroo hard drive does for a windows PC notebook computer. Essentially, it is another hard drive, independant of the internal storage that you have to use this program that comes with the card to move data back and forth. The program itself was pretty easy to use but I didnt like the interface even though I understand the graphical limitations that the LCD screen of the Visor imposes on module developers. As for the actual data transfer, it was fast and flawless. I have not yet lost a single piece of data during transfer to date.

One of the better features of this flash memory is that, unlike the internal storage, this memory enhancement does not rely on the internal battery of the handspring to hold its data. I soon bought another Innopak after I found this out for data backup purposes. This RAM is fast and integrated well into the handspring. I usually run many apps off of the Innopak and encounter very little speed difference to the point that I really cant tell which part of memory the program is running from. Needless to say, I was very pleased with the flash expansion.

Vibrator
The vibrator, on the other hand, I honestly cannot rave about. I wish that they had chosen to leave this part out because all that I have found it to be able to do is tie in with the Date Book alert and vibrate when I am nearing an appointment. Honestly, it is not an option that I need at the moment. As a network computer manager, I have a constantly changing, dynamic schedule that I have to follow as it comes to me. I cant really attempt to keep many appointments so for me the vibrator is just a utility unused.

In its defense, the vibrator alarm is easy to use and setup, requiring only a few touches of your Handspring's stylus and you vibrator is raring and ready to go for your next appointment. On the one occasion that I have had to use the vibrator alert (I do attend conferences from time to time.), I have found that the vibrator is a wonderful difference from the annoying beeper that usually goes with the Date Book utility, ideal for conference or buisness environment.

Options
There are very few options currently availible for this particular accessory. You are allowed only two colors, "Ice" or "Graphite" (the one I have.), and there are no larger memory sizes that still include the vibrator. Maybe Innogear should consider making larger memory expansions.

Software
The handspring software included with the peripheral package was only marginal, not really anything significantly noteworthy but it was a sufficient package for the hardware it was bundled with. Having to use the data transfer package sort of reminds me of transferring data to and from memory cards on my Nintendo 64 Console. It would have been much better for most of my use if they just made it seamlessly integrated and boosted availible space transparently.

One of the good points about how they did do it is that this new package can now be used as a data backup for important data and apps in case of accidental power loss or other such misc. failure. This combination of functionality and flexibility makes this a good peripheral and worth the money to buy it for your visor.

Overall
Overall, I was extrememly surprised at the functionality of this accessory for the Handspring. It does everything I need for extra storage and provides a buisness vibrator for appointments. I would recommend this accessory to any who are looking for a memory expansion pack or a data backup.
