Since 1998, I have been hosting websites with various providers accross the internet. Around that time, Amazon.com came out with an "Associates" program which empowered web developers with websites touting various topics to offer amazon.com products to visitors and build a revenue stream. Initially, the Amazon.com associates program was a small affiliate setup which offered only graphical and search boxes as technology allowed. In 2002, Amazon.com levereged emerging XML markup technology to offer a Web Services platform for developers to build thier own sites on.
Participating in the beta of that program, I wrote an engine first in ColdFusion which proved difficult to find inexpensive hosting for, and the total cost of ownership was too high. I soon rewrote my Amazon Web Services (AWS) powered engine to take advantage of the strong features and low cost of the PHP platform. Actively participating in the associates community, I researched and provided browsenodes, a resource not availible at the time, and was featured in the version 1 AWS documentation.
Anyway, I launched a store. Intially a web design inspired by an old HomeLAN web design crossed with the website that 3Com had at the time, producing Wynweb.net and beginning to setup the first of my Amazon Webstores. Since that time, I have grown more proficient both at web design AND at PHP and constructed a second engine iteration which offered the opportunity to use the newly-availible international Amazon sources. I constructed a new site around them touting all the things that wynweb.net has but integrating that with the ability to do your product seraches on amazon UK and amazon-germany. Aeronte.com was born.
Since that time my efforts with Amazon have pretty much run themselves. Small amounts of upkeep have kept those sites going and generating revenue to power this site. Here I have placed my graphs so that others can see how the amazon.com associates program has done for me and so that they have something to compare to. Again, these results are my own, someone who has a pretty good knowledge of web development and hasnt really had alot of time or money to dump into promoting his sites. Enjoy and if you have any questions about the program or my sites, feel free to contact me via the Contact Page.
